This artwork is a clear expression of the artist's unique style of cubism & expressionism. The artwork is intended to exist as a portrait inspired by the nature of human dynamics and nuances. It serves almost as a constellation of personalities and identities all existing within one individual. Speaking on the concept of having multiple versions of ourselves that all serve different intentions, inspired by a Japanese proverb - 

The proverb reads:

“The Japanese say you have three faces. The first face, you show to the world. The second face, you show to your close friends and your family. The third face, you never show anyone.”

It’s an elegant statement of a psychological commonplace about the notion of personae, or masks. We present ourselves differently to different audiences—we show things to those close to us that we do not show to the world, nor do we need to show such things to the world. The third face can be anything from the Self in its totality (to use a Jungian term) or certain things that we simply keep private.

We remain authentic as long as each face contains some real part of us.

This digital painting communicates the diversity and encourages both the aesthetic and functional parity of these hairstyles — threading, twisting, locing, braiding, and so on.  Amongst other benefits, these styles allow for length retention, lower manipulation of our natural hair and room for experimentation, thus increasing opportunities for self-expression.

It ultimately celebrates the beauty and timelessness of the practice of protective styling.
